What to Expect at Your Early Postpartum Virtual Visit

The six weeks between delivering your baby and following up with your doctor can leave people wondering what healing should and could look like during this time.

At Root to Rise, we provide a two week virtual early postpartum visit (that can be accessed with help of our admin team directly through your online portal) to help bring light to the early stages of this healing process. We utilize this time to check in with you about recovery, assess your body in gentle movements, start treatment, and answer all of your questions.

Recovery check-in:
We typically discuss how your delivery went, pain or other symptoms, sleep, nutrition, bladder and bowel health, and your current activity level. All of these are likely to change throughout the six weeks, but it can be very helpful to have some tips and tricks to navigate these as soon as possible.

Assessment:
After finishing the discussion, we will look at you in standing and in gentle movements. We may also look at your posture, which may include looking at where you are feeding and how  you are picking up your baby. We will also guide you through assessing your abdominals, as they have gone through a major change either just through delivering a baby or in experiencing a c-section. This includes walking you through a self diastasis recti assessment. We also will assess your current core stability with a few gentle movements.

Guidance and Treatment:
After getting the full picture of your recovery thus far, we will provide you with stretches, strengthening exercises, and ergonomic recommendations as appropriate. This may include movements that target opening of your chest to counteract the hunching that may be occurring during feeds and diaper changes, breath work, gentle core and pelvic floor connection with movement and/or a variety of others based on your current state of healing.

Additionally, we will have time at any point to answer questions about the recovery process and support you in any other ways we can!
