Dry Needling
Dry needling is a safe and effective treatment modality performed by our specialty-trained Physical Therapy Doctors. Thin stainless steel needles (filiform, meaning no fluid is injected) are inserted into skin, muscle, tendons, ligaments, fascia, around nerves, and around bone to address both muscle and connective tissue restrictions and decrease pain.
Dry needling helps reduce pain by communicating with the local tissues mentioned, as well as our central nervous system, which can be very effective in “resetting” chronic pain patterns. Dry needling can be performed with or without electrical stimulation, although studies reveal that dry needling is more effective with electrical stimulation.
Dry needling has been proven to work best when combined with manual therapy and exercise; however, we are now offering stand-alone 30-minute dry needling treatment visits for patients who have an established plan of care.
